Hello readers!!
It’s been a little while since I last did a blog. As most of you know, I was waiting for my wife Dani to give birth to our first child, who was due on 5th June 2012. She eventually arrived nearly two weeks late on 18th June 2012! However, there were some complications.
Firstly, Dani had to have an episiotomy to help with the birth, as well as the suction cup removal method on the baby’s head. It had been a very long labour and Dani was exhausted, particularly as the gas and air made her quite sick. When baby Olivia arrived she wasn’t breathing and was showing signs of distress, including abnormal brain patterns. She was rushed to the intensive care unit and began to receive treatment. She was then moved to a different hospital where she stayed in intensive care on the neo-natal unit for a week. Click here to see a video of her receiving treatment.
Amazingly, she recovered to 100% perfect health and is now home, safe and happy! No lasting problems at all! But I can honestly say that when they placed a blue, lifeless baby on my wife’s bloodied stomach, it was the single worst moment of my life!
Thankfully it is over now and I can get back to writing and doing art, in between helping out with baby Olivia
Stay creative,
Aaron

Aaron – totally terrifying. I went through something similar with my first daughter, although we thankfully avoided the SCBU. She was 10 days late and I had a placental abruption, so we were rushed in. Then they disocovered (after 14 hours of back to back labour!) that she was trying to come out face first. They tried hoiking her out with the ventouse and forceps but her heart stopped so they whipped her out via a C-section. Even the obstetrician said she was a little miracle, and I later found out lots of babies in her situation are damaged in some way. But she made up for the lack of SCBU 14 weeks later by having a full blown anaphylactic allergic reaction to her one and only bottle of milk… oh, the life of a parent!
I hope this is the one and only time she scares you, and welcome to the world, Olivia!
